A Significantly Sweet Milestone: 35-Years of Cadbury World

As Cadbury World celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, we’re taking a trip down memory lane to relive decades of mouth-watering memories.

February 2025: Since opening its doors in 1990, the much-loved attraction has welcomed more than 18 million visitors of all ages from Birmingham and much further afield.

The vision for Cadbury World was to uphold the value “Cadbury means chocolate means fun,” and it fast became a beloved destination for chocolate connoisseurs and families alike, with press coining it ‘a dream come true for thousands of choco-holics…’.

 

Celebrity Fans:

  • 1991 Prime Minister John Major formally opened Cadbury World.
  • 1997 Princess Anne visited the attraction and was presented with a plaque and portrait made entirely out of Chocolate by chocolatier Dawn Jenks who is still working at the attraction today.
  • 2005 Gwyneth Paltrow surprised Chris Martin and friends with a visit to Cadbury World.
  • 2010 Peter Andre created quite the buzz when he unexpectedly showed up at the attraction.
  • 2016 Adele visited Cadbury World whilst on tour in Birmingham.

 

Behind The scenes:

Cadbury World General Manager, Gerrard Baldwin is one of the longest serving Cadbury World employees, having worked at the attraction since its opening day in 1990.

General Manager Gerrard Baldwin said “Cadbury World is a truly magical place and seeing the smiles and excitement on visitors’ faces is something I will really miss as I retire later this year.”

No chocolatey endeavor is too large for Cadbury World’s team of 30 in-house chocolatiers. The dedicated team have turned their fish tail scrapers and palette knives to dozens of unique creations over the last 35-years, including the Apollo 11 moon landing.

Chocolatier Lee Bromwich has worked at Cadbury World since the attraction opened in 1990, and over the years his labour of love has blossomed into a true family affair, with Lee’s wife, son, daughter and daughter-in-law all working at Cadbury World.

When asked about Cadbury World’s 35th anniversary, Lee said “Having been at Cadbury World since the very beginning, celebrating this milestone is certainly special.”

 

Evolution of Cadbury World:

  • Cadabra, Cadbury World’s iconic ride, welcomed its first riders in 1997.
  • In 2006, the Purple Planet zone gave visitors the opportunity to participate in a uniquely interactive chocolate environment.
  • The Bournville Experience Museum opened in 2007.
  • Advertising Avenue has been taking guests on a trip down memory lane since 2009.
  • The 4D Chocolate Adventure cinema launched in 2014.
  • Spring 2024 the new Cadbury Chocolate Quest ride launched, and old favourite, the Cadabra ride, retired.
  • November 2024, the Cadbury World shop re-opens with the UK’s biggest Cadbury range under one roof.

 

Every year, Cadbury World welcomes around 70,000 school pupils, offering a choice of 13 educational sessions for children aged between 5 and 18 with different versions available for different key stages.

As Cadbury World celebrates this momentous 35-year anniversary, the much-loved attraction invites visitors to relive their sweetest memories and create new ones, ensuring that the magic of Cadbury World endures for generations to come.
